Alcohol kicked off this low key acoustic gig with a first set entirely consisting of the bands own material, Cory and Tony played guitar, Ste played bass. The material covered old and new songs - with the inclusion of a brand new song never played live before - Love Drug, Alcohol also played a rather different version of I'm In Pain.

After having a 20 minute break, the band started a few solo sets off, starting with Ste. Ste opted for House of the rising sun (The Animals), Hero (Enrique) and One (U2). Cory decided on Time After Time, Everlong (Foo Fighters) and Pick A Part (Stereophonics). Tony ended the solo sets with I Am Mine (Pearl Jam), R.I.P (Buffy Soundtrack/Spike) and Married With Children (Oasis). Before the band came together for the final set Tony played an old Alcohol song Lost Wishes.

The band then came together to play a few more alcohol songs, and ended on 3 covers, Million Miles Away and Gone Away by The Offspring and ending on Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi with Ste on vocals.

Thanks for everyone who came out to see us, and thanks to Sally and Ian for doing the PA for us!

Alcohol played their first gig in almost 2 years at the Town Mills battle of the bands contest. Alcohol were in heat 3 against 3 other bands - Diver, Mountain Mary and Violet Hill. Each band had a five song limit and the first song was a sound check, the bands were only judged on the last 4 songs. Two bands go through from each heat.

Diver played first and they sounded really good, it was only their first gig but they were lively and the songs were cool. Alcohol followed with their set, which was a nice quick punky set lasting 17 mins. Alcohol threw 2 new songs into the mix I'm Alone and I'm In Pain both new songs seemed to be well received!

Unfortuanately Alcohol didn't get through in this heat - Diver and Violet Hill got through to the next round.

Thanks for everyone who took the time to come and see us, thanks to Diver for a great opener (look forward to possibly playing with you guys sometime soon) and thanks to the Mill for providing a decent venue in Mansfield.

Alcohols next gig is at the Ram on the 4th October.

Alcohol played a private gig for two of their friends 21st birthdays (Sally and Denise).

During their set the DJ who was waiting to start playing after the set decided to start fucking about, but after Cory told him to fuck off and threw a stick at him we think he maybe got the message.... the cunt.

Alcohol decided to mix the set with more covers than usual to try and increase the crowd enjoyment as much as possible and therefore ended on two covers (20th Century Boy and Careless Whisper), both seemed to go down well apart from that Tony bloke who kept screaming down the microphone and scaring the children away, oh hang on what do you mean hes the singer, oh right...

Stephen and Tony ended it all by singing Happy Birthday to the birthday girls without music.

The gig was video taped and recorded on minidisc.

Thanks go out again to the PA dude who made us sound as good as we could be.
Thanks to Sally and Denise for letting us play.
Thanks to Jack Daniels for being there, you're always welcome to our gigs.... bring your mate Vladivar next time though.
Thanks to the DJ for ruining our set - you cunt.

Alcohol back at the John Cockle in their battle of the bands season. Three bands were playing (Alcohol, Mook and Gyza) and each had to play 5 songs (a maximum of 2 covers), Alcohol were on first.

After sound checking Alcohol started the set with Claire 2, which set the tone for our set. Next up was Drew with its hard rock intro and poppy main riff. Then Alcohol played I Honour You (the BURBs award winning song) which slowed things down a bit and gave Cory a rest!! Save Me followed and sped things back up to Alcohol's normal gig pace, and Alcohol finished the set with a cover of The Offsprings "Million Miles Away", which seemed to go down really well.

Now a word about the PA, well two words really - Fucking Brilliant. The PA dude was fantastic, he even let us do a minidisc recording straight from the board - we have his number and we will use him again!

After so many bad experiences with other bands, it was really nice to actually play with two other bands who as well as being excellent bands, were also really nice people, Alcohol didn't win the battle of the bands but they really didn't mind because all the bands played good sets and they didn't mind losing to Gyza.

So congratulations go out to Gyza (we'll come to the semi finals and shout for ya), thanks to Mook for letting us use their kit and for being all round fantastic people, thanks to all the people who came to see us and thanks to the PA dude - YOU ALL ROCK!!!

The 3rd gig, alcohol were back at the Old Vic.

The place hadn't changed, but the band were hoping that this time the other bands would turn up. Alcohol got there at 6pm, and waited.

And Waited.

Indigo started turning up around 7pm, amidst great PA confusion, who was bringing the PA? they asked. How the fuck should we know? we replied.

The PA bloke turned up around 8pm. He reached the stage about 8.10pm. Never before have we met such a miserable fucking twat, and we've met a few. The guy looked like we had just interupted his twice weekly Baywatch/Masterbation/Kleenex ritual and was clearly not in the mood to set up any kind of decent sound levels, coming out with such killer phrases as "fuck off" and my all time personal favourite "its as loud as its going to go, fuck off".

Ahhh such a sweet man.

Anyway, alcohol got onto stage at around 8.50pm after a really bad sound check ("Live it loud").

Now a word about the drumkit.

Now, we didn't take our own kit, which looking back was a mistake and one which we will NOT be making again. Indigo were the bearers of the kit and awwwwwwww it was sooooo sweet. The littlest brownest little kit you've never seen. It was almost a shame to beat the crap out of it.

Cory was quoted to have said "What the fuck is that piece of shit".

So, after a bad sound check, alcohol played their set. "Claire 2" was not up to its usual standards and was followed by a new song "Save Me". Both of which didn't live up to their usual standards, but the set certainly started improving from here on.

By the time alcohol got to the end part of the set, things were nearly as they should have been, the band sounded good and were jamming out the songs like there was no tomorrow.

But, Indigo had decided that we had been playing long enough and demanded that we finish the set, to keep the peace, we agreed to end the set after playing a heavy and fast version of "Freak" by silverchair, and stormed off stage.

So, Indigo. Why were you being such wankers? I don't know why you were in such a rush to go onstage and play all those covers that no one wanted to hear? And why if we were taking up so much time did you finish at 10.40 when there was NO ONE LEFT TO PLAY? Was it because your mommys had to come and pick you up because the streets aren't safe after 11? Is it because you had to be up early the next day to get your balls reattached?

Or is it just because you are a bunch of wankers?

Alcohol's second ever gig.

Alcohol supported local band Velvatone who are one of the most well known bands in Mansfield/Ashfield. The stage was small and the crowd was there to see Velvatone and Velvatone alone, and didn't care who Alcohol were and what they played, which is fair enough and was expected.

Alcohol played their best and lasted 45 minutes, throwing 3 new songs into the set (Myself, Claire 2 and Believe) and only playing one cover (Gone Away by The Offspring). Tony ended the set by giving a little speech, something along the following lines :-

"Ladies and gentleman, we've been alcohol and velvatone will be on in about 10-15 minutes, thanks for listening and we're going to end on a nice slow one for you"

The band then played the hardest and fastest version of Useless they've ever done.

Alcohol's first proper gig. They were supposed to be playing alongside three other bands, Connection, Illusive and Broken. But all three bands cancelled on the day so alcohol had to play the Old Vic by themselves.

The band planned a half hour set but had to extend it because they were the only ones playing that night. The original set list ended at Useless.

The gig was videotaped.

Songs in italics are covers.

Alcohol's first ever live performance. They were there to play whilst the main band took a break between sets. The main band were workmates of Cory's and they mostly played Beatles and Oasis covers.

This was before alcohol had a drummer so the band consisted of Tony Hearn on vocals and guitar, Cory Bettison on vocals and guitar and Wayne Rains on bass guitar. The pub was only a small village pub so the gig was more or less acoustic, with Tony playing an electric guitar.
